Support Environmental Education
Since 1998 BaySail has been providing students with an unforgettable environmental education experience aboard our schooners. Over 34,000 students have come aboard the Appledores and taken part in a program that builds upon classroom lessons through curriculum-linked, hands-on experiences in an engaging and exciting environment - the deck of a sailing ship underway.
Why should we teach our children about the environment?
"In the coming decades, the public will more frequently be called upon to understand complex environmental issues, assess risk, evaluate proposed environmental plans and understand how individual decisions affect the environment at local and global scales. Creating a scientifically informed citizenry requires a concerted, systemic approach to environmental education..." National Science Foundation
Unfortunately, at this time of greatest need, environmental education is, according to the North American Association of Environmental Education, "facing a national crisis...many schools are being forced to scale back or eliminate environmental programs and fewer and fewer students are able to take part in related classroom instruction and field investigations..."
Recognizing the challenges faced by schools, BaySail charges classroom groups just 60% of the actual cost to take part in our award winning Science under Sail program. The remainder is subsidized by BaySail through revenue generated from private charters and public sails, and by contributions from generous donors like you. So far in 2011 contibutions totaling $131,779 will subsidize over 2600 students. For 2012 our goal is $150,000. To reach this goal we need your help. Will you make a donation of $50 today?
Help us reach this goal with your donation of $50 or more.
Our children need environmental education to become informed decision makers and responsible environmental stewards. Without engaging programs like Science under Sail, the relationship between a healthy natural world and livable, prosperous communities will remain only abstract concepts to them.
Will you help us teach the next generation the importance of a healthy environment?

Your tax deductible donation will help fund Science under Sail and teach the next generation the value of environmental stewardship. BaySail is a 501(c)3 non-profit governed by a 10 member Board of Directors.
