The Ultimate Summer Camp?

Can you teach your teenager the value of working in a team? The importance of respecting authority? How rewarding it is to be responsible and how empowering it is to be self-sufficient? Young people between the ages of 14 and 18 learn these lessons along with many other skills during BaySail’s Windward Bound sail training program aboard the schooner Appledore V. BaySail is currently accepting applications for the 2017 Windward Bound season which includes 7 separate voyages, 4 Great Lakes and 2 countries.

Windward Bound 2017 voyages range in length from 5 to 12 days, include sailing in lakes Huron, Erie, Ontario and Michigan, with stops at festivals in Hamilton, Bath and Amhertsburg, Ontario; Sorel-Tracey and Quebec City, Quebec; and Ludington. Cost per trainee ranges from $750 to $1500 and includes (where necessary) ground transportation to/from destination cities and room, board and shore excursions to destinations like Niagara Falls. A limited amount of scholarship funds is available to trainees in the Great Lakes Bay Region of Bay, Midland, Saginaw and Isabella counties. Each voyage is limited to a maximum of 6 trainees.

The 2017 sailing season will be particularly exciting because Windward Bound programs will be offered in conjunction with Appledore V’s participation in Rendezvous Quebec, a celebration of the 150th anniversary of the Canadian Confederation and the largest gathering of international tall ships in North America.
